Program

The SVG Public Archaeology Program was designed to rescue and record the site of Argyle 2 prior to construction of the international airport.  While its main goal is archaeological in nature, its priority is to give volunteers a hands-on experience, excavating under the guidance of professional archaeologists.

There are only three 1-week sessions for the 2012 season.  Each session involves 5 days of fieldwork and/or labwork, depending on weather and the quantity of recovered artifacts.  The 6th day is an excursion day, where you will have the chance to explore St. Vincent and/or the Grenadines.  The 7th day is free time, to allow for travel and other errands.

Session 1: January 3 to January 9, 2012
Session 2: January 11 to January 17, 2012
Session 3: January 19 to January 25, 2012

Program fees include room and board for one week, travel to and from the airport, the excursion, and donations to both the National Trust Heritage Fund and the International Airport Contributory Fund.  Please note that volunteers are responsible for their own travel to and from St. Vincent, and should aim to arrive the evening before their start date.

Accommodations will be provided at the Hotel Alexandrina in Prospect, approximately 10 minutes from the site of Argyle 2 and 20 minutes from the capital city of Kingstown.  Each volunteer will have a room with a private bathroom, with access to a full kitchen and wifi internet access.  Hotel Alexandrina is only 10 minutes from the nearest beach, but also has a pool and deck for those relaxing afternoons after digging.

Meals are provided in-house, with packed lunches for site and homemade Vincy meals for dinner.  Please advise of any food restrictions.
